“Babe! It’s about to start,” Steve calls from his spot on their couch.

Their living room has been taken over by the Party, but unlike twenty years ago when they all would have fit crowded but comfortable in the space, they’re like a can of sardines now. Bodies on top of bodies. Some share dining room chairs, others sprawled out on the floor so they don’t block the TV.

It’s rare they’re all together like this now, just the original Hawkins gang, no kids, no outside significant others, just them.

It needed to be like that.

At least for this.

“Thirty years ago, a small town in Indiana was plagued with a series of misfortune tracing back to government mishandling. Or so the residents were told. While many in the town believed the government story, others became skeptical.

“For the first time ever, we’re talking with a group of citizens who claim to be intimately involved in the events that really happened in a once quiet Indiana town. Stay tuned for a special showing of The Truth Revealed: Hawkins Turned Inside Out.”

“Oh, they were so close,” Dustin chuckles.

“Dammit, Eds! Where are you?” Steve calls again, throwing his body over the open couch cushion as Max tries to claim it.

“The show is starting and he’s not here, so it’s mine now,” she says, pulling on Steve’s arms to get him to move.

“You have Lucas’s lap to sit on!”

“And Eddie has your lap to sit on. Now move!”

Steve’s about to give in when Eddie comes racing down the hallway. The sudden absence of his thunderous footsteps is the only warning sign before he throws himself over the back of the couch and crashes down on Steve’s back as if he’s still a twentysomething year old and not a fiftysomething year old.”

“Seriously, Eds?” Steve groans under the weight of Eddie.

“Aw, baby,” Eddie croons. “Thought you loved being under me.”

The room erupts into a chorus of mock gagging and outrage. It brings Steve right back to the summer of 1986, when he and Eddie’s relationship was new and shocked the kids. They couldn’t even peck each other on the cheek without one of them wanting to gouge their eyes out. In a fun way, of course.

“We still got it,” Eddie laughs, leaning forward to free Steve.

“You guys are disgusting,” Robin laughs from the chair she’s currently sharing with Robin. Bodies pressed so close together they’re practically intertwined. She’s one to talk.

“What are you wearing, babe?” Steve asks, glancing over at Eddie for the first time since he made his dramatic entrance.

Eddie beams. His cheek dimples so big and deep, Steve’s pretty sure he could bury his entire pinky nail into them.

“Thought I’d dress for the occasion,” he shrugs. “What do you think?”

Steve blinks, really taking in Eddie. He’s wearing an old Hellfire Shirt. It’s not the same one he wore during Spring Break 1986 — that one went stayed behind in the Winnebago — but it’s the same design. A leftover from the hoard of shirts Eddie made for his club all those years ago.

It’s a snug fit. The logo stretched taunt across Eddie’s well-loved belly. The bottom of the shirt barely covers his navel, rolling up at the hem. The sleeves still fit though. Nothing’s changed too much about Eddie’s arms, aside from new ink to cover some of the scars.

Eddie’s left no detail unturned. From the black jeans that aren’t as baggy as they used to be, to the chain and bandana in his back pocket. He’s even got his old rings on. The only detail out of line is the missing skull ring he used to wear on his left ring finger. A black band with a gold stripe through it sits there instead.

“You should have told us you were dressing up,” Dustin wines.

“Yeah! I would have found dug mine out of storage,” Mike adds.

“If I told you it wouldn’t have been a surprise!” Eddie smiles, tipping his head back in that satisfied way of his.

“And now it’s time to learn what really happened in Hawkins, Indiana in the 1980s,” the announcer says.

Her booming voice is met with a chorus of shushing and chants to turn it up, all of which are listened to as they settle in to watch themselves reveal what really happened all those years ago.

Of course, it doesn’t stay silent for long as they all chime in with comments, laughter, and even some tears. They may be thirty years removed from the events, but the wounds are still fresh for most of them.

On the final commercial break, Erica checks in with social media on her phone. Shaking her head and mumbling curses under her breath.

“They don’t believe us,” she fumes, typing violently on her phone. “Those idiots. It’s just the facts!”

“We knew we weren’t going to convince everyone,” Lucas says, trying to placate her.

“It was never about them,” El nods. “It was about telling our truth. So we do not have to lie anymore.”

“I know,” Erica groans. “But it’s still annoying. They’re still going to think we’re freaks.”

“Nothing wrong with that,” Eddie says.  

They all nod in agreement as the final segment of the show begins. It’s quiet as they watch the final minutes of their own interviews play out on television. They all get asked the same question:

“If you could go back and relive those years without any of these events happening, would you?”

To no one surprise, they all answer no.

But it’s Steve’s answer that gets everyone choked up.

Especially Eddie.

“Absolutely not. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the shit we went through. I never would have met my platonic soulmate. Or the love of my life. And I would probably be stuck in a miserable cookie-cutter family, instead of the found family I have because of those events. I’d take a thousand more hits to the head or bites to my chest if I had too to keep them around.

“Besides, being normal is overrated. Being a freak is so much better,” on-TV Steve says, winking directly into the camera.

Eddie leaps at Steve, smothering him with over-the-top kisses until the kids are groaning and gauging so loud it drowns out any of the trauma that the documentary might have brought back up.

“I’m changing my answer,” Dustin groans. “I’d go back and make sure you two stayed mortal enemies!”

“Too late, Henderson,” Steve sings. “You already said you wouldn’t go back. It’s immortalized on TV!”

I made Murdoc a vampire, it really adds to his character making it more accurate with all the bleh and hissing he does. He does seemingly know how to teleport into others' rooms which I find slightly annoying x)

Murdoc's room is by far the dirtiest of all, full of dirt stains, empty bottles, dirty dishes, trash, dirty laundry and general ick. I had a lot of fun making the place look horrendous. Murdoc is a fictional cartoon character intended to be a funny self-absorbed antagonist, but I understand this might be a bit too triggering for some and I don't wanna get into problems with my blog so I'm tagging this post as mature, even though I tried to soften it with goofy humour. I've changed my mind about this because it's blocking my entire blog as mature and not allowing any non tumblr user to see it and honestly it's not that bad, if anyone gets offended please kindly let me know privately and I'll hide it again, I am working so hard on this blog and don't want anything bad to happen

Shooting first and asking questions later in the Allspark Studios today is none other than Autobot Vanguard and ever reluctant leader, Rodimus Prime!  Does he have the touch to light the darkest hour brighter than his undead (whoops, spoilers) predecessor, Optimus?  Follow along after the jump to find out!

Hot Rod and Rodimus were two characters I could identify with as a kid, and still do some to this day.  Hot Rod was a brash know it all (I may still be), and Rodimus was a reluctant leader whose position was a heavy burden (as it should be).  The aspects of their personalities that most found annoying definitely connected with me, so when I had a chance to get the G1 toys, it was a no brainer.  I was a little amazed and a little disappointed at the time.  I was just getting back into G1 after a long and passionate love affair with everything Beast Wars (Machines, II, Neo, etc), and they lacked a lot of the things I was looking for in a toy.  It was nostalgia tinged with what could have been.  I wanted better toys.

  Years later, and multiple Rodimuses…er, Rodimii…,umm Rodimus Prime figures in the bins and we still had not gotten a truly great one…or really one at all.  When I saw Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime online for the first time, my eyes shot open with amazement.  I had to have that toy.  You can imagine the disappointment I was setting myself up for here, but this story has a happy ending similar to POTP Optimus Prime’s.  After some initial frustration, I love what we have in POTP Rodimus Prime, and I know you will too.

Editor’s note: There are a couple of steps in the transformation process that gave me some trouble.  I am going to highlight them in order to hopefully help you avoid that stress.  Or stressed plastic.  I make no guarantees, and I am not responsible for anything you do with your toys, but these suggestions worked for me.

  Cybertronian Car Mode

One of the best things about 86 Movie and Post 86 Movie product was that Hasbro and Takara really just went crazy with the ideas.  Futuristic elements such as Cybertronian vehicle modes and off the wall concepts like Pretenders were my cup of tea, even more so than the original 84-85 cast of characters and designs.  We had already seen some Cybertronian vehicles in the cartoon, so getting Hot Rod was a big deal.

This version is pretty faithful to the original figure.  Actually, I take that back.  This is a definite improvement, as the POTP race car mode is sleeker than that of the G1 figure, much more like the cartoon look.  He does not sport any chrome, but the silver paint is nice.  His wheels are a solid black, and while I know that will disappoint many of you, go get a Molotow acrylic chrome pen and get to work.  The pens are so good you almost can’t mess things up, so don’t worry if like me, your painting skills are not the best.  One last detail that I really love is the spoiler.  It is so spot on to the cartoon model that I almost smile.  Really, all in all, that is what you are getting with POTP Hot Rod in car mode: the G1 cartoon model.

Transformation notes: The front of the vehicle and the back have small things to watch out for during transformation.  The front of the car where the robot shoulders peg in can be difficult to pop out.  I have found that pulling the end with the wheel on it out first, then easing the other side off the tab seems to help.  The back of the vehicle where the legs peg in to the spoiler area need to be hooked into place.  Slide them around the tab on the center of the spoiler first, then up into the outer tabs.  Reverse this process to unpeg them.

    Battle Winnebago Mode

I love the idea of a Battle Winnebago.  It’s just so ludicrous, even more so when the “cab” is formed from a race car.  POTP Rodimus does not disappoint here either.  He’s kinda business in the back, party up front, making him either a seedy club, or a reverse mullet.

Anyhow, he again follows the cartoon model fairly close, though having the cab form from the Hot Rod car makes him a little sleeker than he was depicted on screen.  He has more of the plain black wheels here, brighter orange on the lower sides of the trailer than he originally had, and his flame decal runs higher on the trailer than before.  He still pulls off the look well, so any changes are easily forgiven.

Transformation notes: I kept doing two things wrong that really made me not like Rodimus in car mode at first.  One of them was getting the upper part of the trailer formed.  Honestly, just use the instructions.  That was my error.  That part is formed by the Rodimus forearms, and it will take getting the connectors to slide into the top at just the right angle, but be patient, follow the instructions, and then take it apart and do it again so you will remember how.  The other issue in transformation that I had was that I was intent on getting the top of the race car to tab into trailer’s faux spoiler.  It popped out every time, or made other pieces pop out.  You don’t need to connect the top of the car to the trailer spoiler.  Just use the tabs on the back of the car (robot knees) and the tabs on the front of the trailer that connect to the car pipes.  That will work just fine.

  Hot Rod Mode

Like Optimus, I needed Hot Rod to be perfect, which was never going to happen.  I have had them both for a few days now, and I decided to hold off writing this review until I was truly happy with the toy for what it is.  This Hot Rod is a nice, super G1 Hot Rod that is a good amalgamation of toy and cartoon.  What I love about the figure are the proportions on everything but the arms, the design of the head, and the decent poseability.  This is a great figure.

I have to admit, there are a few things I do not like:

The robot arms are too thin and more like the original toy than the character model

The arms have less articulation in some planes of movement (upward shoulder area being the worst)

The head can only twist laterally, not look up or down

Initially these things really disappointed me.  Then I put the toy down and came back to him two days later and realized that while the above mentioned design elements bug me, this is still a great figure, with good articulation, that pulls off a look I did not have on my shelf.  I found the love for this toy.

Transformation notes: Just remember the warnings I made above in the race car section and you will be fine, until you get to Rodimus Prime Mode

  Rodimus Prime Mode

This is the best Rodimus Prime figure ever.  It’s damn near perfect, though it deviates from the established meshing of G1 toy and cartoon model because honestly, something was going to have to give at some point.  I do not mind, as Hasbro and Takara have given us a true Prime.  Rodimus is tall, built like a mammoth, and armed to the robo-teeth.  Gone is the slender look he had in his previous life, as this version of him truly elevates him to something that looks like the power of the Primes and the Matrix of Leadership flow through his circuits.  I think I love this mode enough to say that I will likely use Legends Targetmaster Hot Rod as my Hot Rod, and this toy will remain in Prime mode on my shelf.

  Beyond the amazing look, there are a couple of things to note that may or may not be to your liking:

He has a bit of backpack kibble. I think it balances out his look, but I can see people not being happy about it.

The head can only twist laterally, not look up or down. This is less forgivable on a leader class figure than a deluxe or even a voyager.

Shoulder articulation is…awkward.

The matrix is not easy to get to like with Optimus.  You have to pop him open to get to it, instead of opening some panels.

Like Optimus, there were also what I would call QC issues with Rodimus:

The knees are not very tight, and he can fall over from his own weight in some poses.

The heels are also very loose and do not support his weight well.

The stickers on the trailer have already started to tear from transformation, as the flames are located on a hinge.

Transformation notes: When going from Hot Rod to Rodimus, the forearms are formed from the front of the trailer.  Be careful when attaching them or detaching them from the backs of Hot Rod’s knees.  Like the leg/spoiler issue, they have to be hooked.  In Rodimus Mode, the hooked piece is on the Hot Rod knee, pointing inward towards the body.  Pulling in that direction first, clearing that hook, then popping out the super tight clamps on the outer part of the arm, will get them off.  Hooking over that part, then pushing down on the clamps will get the arm piece on.

  Overall Thoughts

Power of the Primes Rodimus Prime is another figure that embodies amalgamation of opposites.  The young and inexperienced soldier becomes the seasoned vanguard warrior, and melds many elements of both the G1 toys and character models along the way.  This figure, also like Optimus, was one of my greatest wants in an update, and while he let me down in some areas as well, he still has so much going for him that I have to say I am ultimately pleased.  This is a fun toy, that will lead my Autobot battalions on a new shelf where Optimus hasn’t yet returned from the dead.  There are a few reservations with giving this figure to younger fans.  You may have to walk them through some of the steps first, until they get the hang of things, lest you end up with a sad youngster and the impulse to hunt down another copy.

I judge this Rodimus a solid 9/10!  He’s a mostly unchewed energon stick, sure to please the discerning Junkion or Sharkticon in your household!

Problematic Movies of the 80s | Stripes (1981)

Bill Murray saved my life in high school.

I was always a bit of an outlier in grade school. A smartass. A kid who tried to redefine himself multiple times due to being the new kid in every school, every year. I believe that because I was perpetually new to each system in place, I was able to be more objective about the flaws in those systems. I could see through the built in hypocrisies and the shallowness of the popular crowds.

On the other hand, maybe I was just an asshole who decided early on to play things by my own set of rules.

When Murray came out in 1979 with Meatballs the caricature of my character became popular in a way that only pop culture can define. The rules were flaccid and pointless he told us. Everything was a joke he proclaimed. No wonder my teachers mostly hated me.

In 1980, as I joined the awful social experiment known as high school, my mom had had about enough and I started getting appointments set up for me with military recruiters. The idea being that perhaps being indoctrinated into a highly disciplined, brutally conformist system that I couldn’t escape from would sand off my anti-authoritarian edges and prime me better for life.

In 1981 my cinematic, comedic hero answered the call that asked and answered the question: What if the Army took in a squad of the least capable idiots ever comprised for military service and they managed to succeed despite all evidence to the contrary?

Stripes Directed by  Ivan Reitman Written by Len Blum, Dan Goldberg, Harold Ramis

From the get-go, John Winger (Murray) is shown to be a complete loser man-boy. In the first five minutes, he has two guys ditch the fare in his cab, he abandons his cab on a bridge because his new fare is a caustic old woman, his car is repossessed, and his live-in girlfriend dumps him because he is basically coasting through life and squandering any future she may have with him.

His best friend Russell (Ramis) is seen to be a completely unqualified ESL teacher for new New York immigrants who doesn’t really take his employ seriously and for his first lesson teaches his class to sing the refrain of “Da Do Ron Ron.”

Life has passed them by so Winger convinces Russell to join the Army because Why Not?

Thus the two enlist and are instantly surrounded by a cast of complete outcasts, idiots, and miscreants who basically had the same idea. They meet two hot MPs (P.J. Soles and Sean Young) who remarkably take a shine to them and the inevitable representation of Boot Camp authority, Sergeant Hulka (Warren Oates).

The plotline exists solely to showcase the sort of early SNL sketch moments of these ridiculous fish-out-of-water morons navigating the Army: buzzcuts, marching pointlessly, a tell-us-your-story session with Hulka, clashes between the Sarge and Winger, the night of leave at a strip club with women mud wrestling (remember when this was a thing?), and a classic moment that apes the commercials of the day as the morons slowly crawl back to the barracks, exhausted, singing the “Be All You Can Be” jingle.

The two hot MPs whisk them away from being arrested from the strip club and then we have the two loser dudes have bizarre childish sexy times with them.

The inevitable Bad News Bears triumph, the assignment to a classified operation involving a militarized Winnebago, an illegal infiltration of Czechoslovakia and RV rescue, and a wrap-up where everyone but P.J. Soles comes out as a hero (her big post-Stripes achievement is the cover of Playboy.)

Throughout it all, Murray maintains his smarmy, smartass objectivity. 

PROBLEMATIC MOMENTS/THEMES

Oh man. Stripes is a relative stew of problematic elements, simmering without malice but just as tasty when the ingredients are sussed out.

Mocking immigrants? Check.

“Monkeyheaded chicks” when referring to Vietnamese women? Check.

Unnecessary topless women. Check. Check, check, check, and check.

Token black actors with lines that only reflect that they are, in fact, black? Check.

Speaking of gratuitous boobs, why does Captain Stillman (John Larroquette) have to be pulling a Porky’s move and spying on naked women in the shower on a military base with almost no women present almost anywhere? 

Mild homophobic humor (cuz being gay was funny in the 80s…) Check.

DID IT HOLD UP?

Let’s face it. Under the scrutiny of 2019 and the Overwhelming Parade of Wokeness, this film is not making the cut.

BUT.

I love early Bill Murray. On some level, I feel his man-child attitude was exactly what a fourteen-year old kid needed: someone who threw all of the conformity and mundanity of adult life and said “Fuck this, man. Let’s behave as if none of it matters and laugh like loons at all the squares!” As an adult in his fifties, I can see that this lifestyle, this dogma of nonconformity and 1970’s SNL thumbing noses at the Establishment, wears thin pretty soon.

My guess is that the Gen Z kids out there will feel the same way when the re-watch some of their Woke heroes on film.

In my teens, I saw Winger’s perspective. In my fifties, I totally understand his girlfriend when she dumps him. In my teens, Sergeant Hulka was The Boot on the Neck of the Hero. In my fifties, he’s the hero. Or at least not the bad guy. I mean, Murray’s the hero despite learning nothing and maintaining his heathy disdain for humanity.

They did not carry out the attack at that time however since one of the girls is believed to have delayed the attack until the next day; she claimed that she desired to give the victim one more day to live.[2] Attack The two accused allegedly planned to carry out the attack Saturday morning in a bathroom at a local park. Instead they were accused of carrying out the attack in a nearby forest while playing a game of hide-and-seek. During the game one of the perpetrators allegedly pinned the victim down but there was reportedly a dispute about who would carry out the stabbing. According to allegations published in Newsweek the supposed perpetrator who had pinned the victim down ordered the other supposed perpetrator to carry out the attack.[2] She is reported to have complied and stabbed the victim 19 times in the arms legs and torso with a five-inch-long kitchen knife. Two of the stab wounds were to major arteries.[8] One of the two stab wounds missed her heart by less than a millimeter and the other went through her diaphragm cutting into her liver and stomach.[3] Immediately following the attack the two accused allegedly told the still-conscious victim to be quiet and that they would get help for her. However they are accused of fleeing shortly after.[2] Aftermath After the stabbing the victim dragged her way out of the forest to a ditch at the side of a nearby road. She was discovered by a bicyclist who called 9-1-1 to get medical assistance for the victim.[9] The victim reportedly said "Please help me. I've been stabbed" to gain the attention of the bicyclist. The criminal complaint stated that the victim was in extreme pain and could only answer yes or no questions.[10] The Waukesha Fire Department and Police Department responded to the call and located the victim who gave law enforcement the name of one of her attackers.[2][11] The victim was transported to a hospital where she underwent surgery.[2][3] Of the 19 stab wounds two were to major organs with one wound missing a major artery by "less than a millimeter". The victim was injured in what is commonly known as the "cardiac box" an area that includes the aorta and lungs; patients wounded in the "cardiac box" typically have a 25 to 50 percent mortality rate.[3] Law enforcement conducted a mass search for the two suspects. Agencies that participated in the search included the police departments of the city of Waukesha Waukesha County New Berlin and Brookfield as well as the Waukesha Fire Department and Flight for Life emergency helicopter services.[11][12] The two girls were apprehended near Interstate 94 by a Waukesha County sheriff's deputy.[13] The officer discovered the knife used in the stabbing in a bag carried by one of the suspects. After being arrested the girls reportedly expressed ambivalent views about the attack. They were described as feeling guilty for stabbing their friend but felt that the attack was needed to appease Slender Man.[2] The victim was discharged from the hospital six days after the attack[14] although she continued to have physical difficulties for several weeks after that. Hyperallergic: A Horror Comic Suffused with Satanism and Dense with Dread

Very average people encounter unspeakable horrors in Winnebago Graveyard, a comic that parks its lavish visuals and grim script less than an hour’s drive from where members of the Manson family set out on a murder spree in 1969. While exposition is sparse in the comic, a potent interplay is palpable between writer Steve Niles and artist Alison Sampson as they open their miniseries about a religious cult and mysterious community in Acton, California. Dread sets in under the algae-green glow of an aging neon sign in the first panel — a midnight exterior scene at the Sierra Pelona Motel parking lot.

The cool blues and pastel violets that colorist Stéphane Paitreau employs for the abduction of a nearly naked couple from their motel room are soon quickly abandoned, and blazing fires and splashes of blood populate the lion’s share of Winnebago Graveyard’s pages. Sampson’s black-robed, torch-wielding mob marches its victims past an RV in the Sierra Pelona lot, then pile its bounty into pickup trucks. They barrel down mountain roads toward a valley, and hectic panels-within-panels depict the captives’ hellish ride. Soon, all is red brake lights and crackling auburn flames.

At a clearing encircled by more members of the cloaked horde, clouds take toothy serpent shapes and obscure the white of Sampson’s enormous desert moon, but nothing can dampen the menace below. The most ghastly sequence in Winnebago Graveyard #1 conjures grainy B-horror films and paper-thin stories of “satanic ritual abuse” that hyperbolic 1980s television hosts chased for ratings. Perched over the bound man now splayed out on a makeshift altar, a presumed “high priest” readies an offering. Things end as badly as expected from horror veteran Niles, whose credits include work with recently departed macabre master Bernie Wrightson and whose 30 Days of Night went to the big screen.

In a supporting essay that follows the story, writer Casey Gilly mulls the imagery we associate with Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey — a “shaved head, priest’s robes, and flair for the dramatic.” But setting aside his own desperate need for attention, worth mentioning is the colossal publicity problem that LaVey had in cult leader Charles Manson’s admirers, who savagely killed on Manson’s orders in the 1960s. Those headlines weren’t good for the Church of Satan. Susan “Sexy Sadie” Atkins — who confessed to stabbing Sharon Tate “I don’t know how many times” and told district attorney Vincent Bugliosi that Manson called himself “Devil” and “Satan” — had once been a dancer in a LaVey-sponsored San Francisco club act. Prefacing the incisive commentary on vampire film Near Dark from critic Sarah Horrocks, Niles cites the influence of 1970s occult horror movies such as The Devil’s Rain, a cheeky remark given that the production’s technical advisor happened to be Anton LaVey.

The “vessels of evil” that Niles suggests we embody in Winnebago Graveyard take physical shape when a figure is summoned from the grisly sacrifice. A slender dagger is plunged into the captured man’s chest, and another naked man climbs out of the wound as his host’s flesh caves and splits. Sampson anchors the action in wince-inducing realism, while her backdrops are filled out with painterly ambiance. The cheering, black-silhouetted mob is stark against Paitreau’s tangerine gradients, flecked with flame trails and crimson blood blots. Also an architect, Sampson’s visuals in 2014’s Genesis are similarly heady. In that Bible-riffing science-fiction comic about a young miracle worker, the skies ripple with cosmic swirls and each building façade is drafted with obsessive precision, but the foundations are indistinct, as if untethered from Earth. Following Winnebago Graveyard’s hallucinatory black mass, the psychedelic atmosphere Sampson is prone to encouraging materializes in oversized mushroom props, clowns, and loitering creeps at a carnival freakshow.

The empty Winnebago at the Sierra Pelona isn’t the only RV in the area. After the ritual, Niles introduces a road-tripping family of three who find a detour at a carnival — a genre staple and a locale rife with the threat of peril. Their vehicle goes missing while they walk through the fairgrounds, during which the most menacing panels are again wordless, filled with looming dark tents and leering ticket-takers. Paitreau returns to soft blue tones when the sun goes down and the family searches for cops in the empty community — a disconcerting setup for the subsequent chapter. The couple’s kid is alarmed, and his mother scrambles for calming words.

“We’ll get to town soon and find a nice motel,” she says.

One doubts that they’ll see a “No Vacancy” sign at the Sierra Pelona.
